Conversion Tracking For Affiliates.
Whether you are writing content for natural search, building incoming links or bidding for keywords in paid search, knowing what traffic to your website converts is key to becoming a profitable affiliate marketer.
How It Works
Referrer information (the page the visitor came from including search words) plus any label appended to an advertisement (?ad=identifier or whatever name you like e.g. ?kw=identifier) is stored in a database. The database sends back the row number which forms the value of a 30 day cookie. Thereafter on every page the visitor views, affiliate links are edited, with the coookie value inserted into the tracking or subid variable.
There's no need to mess about with individual links. List the affiliate networks you're using and Affedit does the rest.
The row number of the log table is inserted by default. The other information categories you can choose to insert are
1. search words
2. ad identifier
3. referrer url.
From the network sales report you can tell exactly which search words, ads and referrer websites converted. Here's an example of what could be seen (in reality you might want to only show the row number). 408_nokia_6111__search.live.com/resu means 408 is the row number, nokia 6111 is the search term and they came from live.com. No ad was clicked on.
Affiliate networks limit the the number of characters in the tracking variable, so you won't be able to include all the information. With the row number always showing, you can examine the rest of the data including search words (query) in the log table.
Features
- Pages are enabled with a single line of javascript
- The referrer and ad identifier are logged
- Data is searchable in many ways e.g. 'hire car', 'hawii & hire car' and july 2006 etc.
- Affiliate links are identified and altered by javascript
- Fits existing sites without any extra work
- Backend password protected
What's new in Version 1.1?
Instead of just inserting the row number you can now elect to append other information too - see above.
